Greek and Roman by BenNewton Greek and Roman by BenNewton
I did this picture because I have been watching alot of documentaries on the Roman Empire and stuff on the Greeks too. It really bothers me when movie producers don't get the history right.
Romans copied alot of things from the Greeks but one thing you need to remember is the Romans were way more advanced in technology.
Its bothers me when I watch immortals and Theseus is wearing Roman armor and he has two roman swords. The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur were placed hundreds of years before even the Greeks. There is no way he would have access to the weapons and armor of the Romans.
Most of the Greeks tools weapons and armor were made with bronze they had nothing compared to the tools and weapons of the Romans.
If your ever making a movie about Greek mythology or the Roman Empire just keep that in mind.
Peace!

This may sound very odd but romans actually could be mistook for Greeks as early as 700 BC. Since Romans were originated from the Etrustcian League, who Originated from the Greek City State Epurius, Romans formed phlanxes and wore similar armor to that of their Greek causinery. Eventually around 300 BC it started to be reformed and the new sort of soldier was the legionary, or Conscript soldiers, and it was still a far cry from the ones we know today.

PS: Rome even took over the Etruscain League for being a Greek Monarchy and eventually waged war against Epurius for their king, Pyrric, being just as ambitions but more greedy then his grand uncle Alexander the great... Who was oddly a macadonian... But in a way I guess its kind of one of those times when the creation kills the creator per say since Etruscia and Roma were meant to be Greek influenced colonies on Italy.

Yeah, this Ancient Grome trend really irritates me, especially with the newer sword and sandal flicks which brag about being more "accurate" to the cultures they're trying to adapt to the screen.

Also Greeks used a round shield. Romans started wth a round shield switched to a curved inward recatangle then later a rounded oval. Also since Rome lasted so long they went from bronze to plate then to chainmail armour.

The romans and Greeks had alot of culteral similarities, especially as far as armor and units. The Greeks main forces where the Hoplites, while the Romans had the Legionaries. Really cool :)
